Twin Valley Riders Club Rules and Policies
for the Fun Days Buckle Series
1.You must be a paid member of the club before you're eligible for points to count towards year-end awards (i.e. if you pay membership dues before the May show, your points start at that May show, if you pay before the June show your points will start in June, etc).
2.Age will be determined by the first show of the year.
3.Monthly shows (“Fun Days”) will be held the 3rd Sunday of every month from May-September.
4.Riders must dress in proper attire for the show; this would be jeans, boots, and a top.
5.Points are kept on one horse/rider combination. When riding more than one horse per event, points will count for year-end awards on both horses, but on an individual one horse/one rider combination. NOTE: This rule does not apply to the lead line, walk/trot, or children's classes.
6.If a person uses more than one horse per show, separate points are kept for each horse and a separate entry fee must be paid.
7.The limit a person may ride per event is twice.
8.A horse may only be used once per class per age division for the Youth, Adult, Senior, and Jack Benny classes.
9.Points can be switched from one horse to another if a “PERMANENT INJURY” (horse deemed no longer fit to be a gaming horse) or DEATH has occurred to the horse with the points. The participant will need to notify a member of the Board of Directors before the “Fun Show” begins. The Board of Directors will need to okay the transfer of any points from horse to horse prior to “Fun Day” events.
10.Must compete in 3 shows to be eligible for year-end awards.
11.Negative coggins required, maybe submitted electronically or by paper copy.
12.A printed current membership list will be available upon request.
13.Events that count towards points are to include: Barrels, Flag Race, Pole Bending, Keyhole, and one (1) mystery event to be determined by the Gaming Committee. Rules and riding patterns for each event will be listed under “Games”.
14.There will be an entrance and exit alley gate that will remain open during the show. The gates can be closed upon request.
15.There will be no whipping (including a crop, bat, over/under or quirt) or spurring a horse in front of the cinch.
16.A person who exhibits excessive poor sportsmanship, negative, or dangerous behavior will receive one (1) warning before an immediate meeting with at least two (2) board members to discuss safety measures.
17.Excessive use of whips, spurs, bats, or force will receive one (1) warning before an immediate disqualification from the event and request for dismissal from the grounds. What qualifies as excessive use of force will be determined by at least two (2) board members.
18.If your horse is a known “kicker” or a potential danger to those around it, please use a red ribbon marker to be tied in the horse's tail. Red Ribbon will be available at the announcer’s stand. Two or more incidents of kicking in a show may result in an immediate meeting between the rider and at least two (2) board members to discuss safety measures.
19.The Gaming Committee will be determined at the Annual Meeting. If there are no volunteers, this duty will revert to the Board.
20.Each rider (excluding Leadline) whether member or non-member must sign up to work at least two event classes (i.e. Youth Poles or Senior Barrels). To opt out there is a $5 fee.
21.Jackpot Games (Team Games) are not point winning games and are entirely voluntary. It is $10 per team to enter ($20/team for Trailer Relay). 70% Payback. From the Payback Amount, 1st place will receive 70%, 2nd place will receive 30%. No limit on entries, but the board asks that everyone be mindful of the health of your horse.
22.Barrel Race Events that are separate from the Fun Days Buckle Series will follow the rules provided by the sanctioning organization (UBRA, PEWC, etc.) and may have different rules. Rules will be posted on the Club Facebook Page before the event, and any significant changes will be announced at the event.
Fun Days Class Fees
Lead Line - no age limit - $10
Walk-Trot - no age limit - $10
Childrens - 12 and under - $15
Youth - 13-17 - $15
Adults - 18-29 - $20
Senior - 30-49 - $20
Jack Benny - 50 and up - $20
There is a $5 non-member fee per rider at Fun Days shows.
Weather Policy
In the case of heat, where the temperature should reach 90 degrees or higher, a decision should be made whether to have the show or not, if at all possible should be made by 8:00pm the evening prior.
In the event of ongoing or heavy rains or severe weather activity a decision for postponement should be made by 7:00am the morning of the show. Directors and Board Members will be responsible for going to the arena and making recommendations on the facilities condition to the president. It will be the responsibility of the president to make the call on the show based on the information they were given by the directors or board members.
If a show is postponed, the first choice make up day will be that following Saturday. If that date is not available or presents conflict, it will be up to the board to make a decision on when the make-up show will occur.
All Weather Updates will be Posted on the Club Facebook Page. Updates via Call, Text, or Email can be made upon request. These requests should be placed with the secretary,
Animal Policy
All animals must be contained and/or in control at all times.
Dogs will not be allowed at the arena during TVRC “Fun Days” Shows unless they are service animals that are properly marked as such.
Dogs will be allowed in the Campground area, but the owner must be in control of their animal at all times (Leash or Enclosure Preferred)
TVRC will take no responsibility or liability for any accidents concerning any animal. (Bylaws, Section VIII-A)
Horses in the campground should be in a pen, fence, or tie line when not in use (or tied to the trailer). There are pens at the far end of the arena for those who do not have the equipment to contain their horse.
An owner can receive up to two (2) warnings for the behavior of their pets and/or the leash/lead policy before the owner and pet will be asked to leave.
Non-Point Classes
Lead Line Rules
1.The lead line class will not be timed. Instead just alternate the colors of the ribbons for each event, for example; blue, pink, purple, green, yellow, etc. The ribbons will have on them “Twin Valley Riders Club Lead Line All-Stars".
2.Riders must wear long pants and shoes with a heel, preferably boots.
3.Speed limit: Walk or Trot.
4.Riders will not use bats or whips; they need both hands to hold on.
5.Lead line will have a shorter course than other classes (same type of patterns).
6.Helmets will be provided by the club for participants and it is recommended that they use them.
7.There will be no age limit on lead line classes but participants are encouraged to progress with their ability.
8.Participants must stay in the pattern through the game.
9.Lead line will complete the Barrels, Poles, Keyhole, and Candy Dash Patterns. No mystery event will be done for this class
10.Riders who compete in three (3) shows regardless of horse will be eligible for a year-end Lead Line Class prize. NOTE: Those who do not qualify will be given an option to pay the difference and receive an award with their class
Walk-Trot Rules
1.Walk-Trot will be a timed, non-point class intended for young/green horses and novice riders. There is no rider age limit, however participants are encouraged to progress with their ability.
2.Walk-Trot will follow all gaming rules that are used for point-awarding classes.
3.Speed Limit: Walk or Trot.
4.A rider will receive two (2) warnings for intentionally breaking pace into a gallop, canter, or run. After two warnings for that horse/rider combination (per year) a rider will be asked to join their appropriate age group (i.e. childrens, youth, etc.). The decision if a rider is “intentionally breaking pace” is to be determined by a board member.
5.Riders who compete in three (3) shows will be eligible for a year-end Walk-Trot Class prize. NOTE: Those who do not qualify will be given an option to pay the difference and receive an award with their class
Point Awarding Classes
Placing awarded to the top six horse/rider combinations in each class\\\\1st\\\\2nd\\\\3rd\\\\4th\\\\5th\\\\6th
POINTS RECEIVED FOR PLACING\\\\6\\\\5\\\\4\\\\3\\\\2\\\\1
1.Point awarding classes will include Childrens, Youth, Adults, Seniors, and Jack Benny.
2.Points will be presented to the top six horse/rider combinations in each class, provided there are six horses qualified. If there are not six horse/rider combinations in the class, points are given to those entered in the class that have qualifying times.
3.In the event Non-Members receive a placing at the show, they will be removed from their placing when calculating points and members will be moved up to fill that placing.
4.In the event of a tie for placing, the points and placing will be given to both riders, and the next place will be skipped.
5.Intentionally trying to prevent an object from falling over with your hand is a disqualification.
6.In the event that a horse/rider combination attends all five (5) shows, that horse/rider combination will receive five (5) bonus points towards year end awards.
7.The first place rider in each point awarding class will receive a High Point Award and be named “Champion” for that year. The second place rider in each point awarding class will also receive an Award and be named “Reserve Champion” for that year.
a.The award for a first time winner for that class will be a personalized buckle (see Buckle Award Guidelines below), the award for a repeat winner in that same class will be able to choose their award (club will fund up to $100 of the alternate award).
8.All normal events (excluding the mystery event) will be measured by the setup team. Year-end fastest time certificates will be awarded for the point receiving classes. These certificates will be awarded for each class and event.

Regular Events
Barrel Race
Breaking the pattern is a disqualification.
Tipping a Barrel is a 5 second penalty.
Intentionally preventing a barrel from falling is a disqualification.
Pattern is to be measured from the back of the arena.
55’ from the back of the arena to the 3rd barrel.
75’ from the 3rd barrel to be level with the 1st and 2nd barrel.
1st and 2nd barrel should be 21 ft off the fence.

Flag Race
Enter the arena with a flag given to you by the individual at the gate. Ride to the barrel. Switch the flags while rounding the barrel, Ride back across the timeline.
Flag must be stuck in the sand to get a time, otherwise it is a disqualification (to be determined by the person resetting the flag after each runner).
Rider may make a right or left turn to round the barrel.
Breaking the pattern (not rounding the barrel) is a disqualification.
Intentionally trying to prevent a barrel from falling is a disqualification.
Pattern is to be measured from the timeline.
Barrel to be set 90’ off of the timeline.

Pole Bending
Rider may start on either side of the poles.
Rider must ride down to the far pole, weave the down the poles, turn, and weave the poles back to the far pole, crossing the timeline on the opposite side.
Each down pole is a 5 second penalty.
Breaking the pattern is a disqualification.
Intentionally stopping a pole from falling is a disqualification.
Pattern is to be measured from the timeline.
Each pole to be 21’ apart
First pole to start at 21’ off of the timeline

Keyhole
Rider must ride down, go through the poles, turn, and return through the poles to cross the timeline.
Each down pole is a 5 second penalty.
Intentionally stopping a pole from falling is a disqualification.
Breaking the pattern is a disqualification.
Pattern is to be measured from the timeline.
First pole will be 75’ from the timeline
Six (6) poles will be set up in a 4’x10’ alley.

Candy Dash (Lead Line ONLY)
There will be a person sitting/standing next to a barrel, the rider and it’s leader will round the barrel while retrieving the candy and go back across the timeline.
Mystery (Alternate) Games
Egg & Spoon
Rider must hold the spoon between thumb and index finger one inch from the egg.
Must change gate on command or will result in a disqualification.
Rider must raise their hand and proceed to the center of the arena when they drop their egg.
Water Cup Race
Water must be transferred behind the barrel.
Must have water in a cup when crossing the timeline.
Grapefruit Race
Must pick up and hold grapefruit with your chin.
If you drop the grapefruit while running back across the timeline the only way you can retrieve it is with your chin. You cannot touch it with your hands or you will be disqualified.
Speed Dash
There will be a single barrel at the other end of the arena (exact length to be determined by the gaming committee). Rider must go down and around the barrel and cross the timeline.
There will be a 5 second penalty for a down barrel.
Intentionally stopping a barrel from falling is a disqualification.
Speed Ball
There will be a single barrel with a cone on top of it at the end of the arena (exact length to be determined by the gaming committee).
Rider will enter the arena holding a ball and must go around the barrel, placing the ball in the cone, and then riding back across the timeline.
Missing the cone or a down barrel is a disqualification.
Intentionally stopping a barrel from falling is a disqualification.
Jumping Figure 8
If you knock down the jump on the entrance to the pattern, that is a 10 second penalty. If you knock down the jump on the exit to the pattern, that is a 5 second penalty.
Each down barrel is a 5 second penalty.
Intentionally stopping a barrel from falling is a disqualification.
Breaking the pattern is a disqualification.
Exact measurements will be determined by the gaming committee.
The pole must stay on the jump stand. If any part of the pole touches the sand, it will be a penalty.
Walk-Trot Class will have the jumping pole start on the ground, and may set pole on stand upon request.
Children’s Class will have the jumping pole start on the stand, and may have pole set on ground upon request (penalty will be included in time).

Flying M
Backwards barrel pattern.
Each down pole is a 5 second penalty.
Intentionally stopping a barrel from falling is a disqualification.
Breaking the pattern is a disqualification.

Speed N Action
A sixteen foot square box is marked in the arena.
Rider starts in the box and then runs around the barrel at the end of the arena. The rider returns to stop in the box and then stay within the box for five seconds.
The horse must not step on or over the box line during the five second hold or the rider is disqualified.
Knocking over the barrel is a 5 second penalty.
Intentionally preventing a barrel from falling is a disqualification.
Pony Express Scramble
There will be a mailbox on the fence at the end of the area (exact measurement to be determined by the gaming committee) and a barrel horizontally at the other fence.
The rider must go to the mailbox, retrieve the item in the mailbox, go around the barrel, and cross the timeline.
The mailbox must be closed after retrieving the mail.
An open mailbox upon crossing the timeline is a 5 second penalty.
A down barrel is a 5 second penalty.
Not retrieving the item from the mailbox is a disqualification.
You may dismount, however you must be on your horse when you cross the timeline entering and exiting.
Walk-Trot and Children’s Classes will have a “Mailman” to hand them the mail from their mailbox, but they must perform a complete stop when they retrieve the mail.
Hourglass
Each down pole/barrel is a 5 second penalty.
Breaking the pattern is a disqualification.

Team Games
Rescue Exchange
First rider rides to the opposite end of the arena and exchanges places with the rescue rider behind the barrel (bails off). Rescue rider will continue to cross the timeline.
Horse must go around the barrel.
Rescue rider must be in the saddle when crossing the timeline.
Hangman Race
Team rides double down to a rope at the side of the arena. The second rider will grab the rope and hang while the first rider rounds the barrel and returns to their teammate. Second rider will resume their spot behind the first rider (drop off of rope) and they will ride double back across the timeline.
A down barrel is a 5 second penalty.
The hanging rider must not touch the sand while hanging, or that will result in a disqualification.
A broken pattern (not going around the barrel) is a disqualification.
Monkey on a Barrel
One teammate will be mounted on the horse, the other will be standing on a barrel at the end of the arena. The mounted person must retrieve their teammate and cross the timeline.
Any person touching the ground is a disqualification.
Trailer Relay
There will be a truck/trailer in the arena with a barrel at the other end. The team of three will start with their hands on the hood of the truck and their horses loaded. Once the flag is dropped, they will unload their horses and run a relay around the barrel with an item chosen by the games committee (i.e. saddlebags or baton). Once all of the riders have ridden around the barrel, they all must reload their horses. Their time will stop once all riders' hands are back on the hood of the truck. (There are a few examples of this on YouTube)
Ribbon Race
The team of two will hold an 18” ribbon/rope and run the same pattern as the Speed Dash. The riders must not drop the ribbon/rope until they cross the timeline.

Ribbons
There will be placing ribbons for riders age 18 and under for placings 1st-6th. Leadline will receive a ribbon for every event (see Lead Line Rules).
Year-End Awards
Leadline, Walk-Trot, and Childrens riders who participate in at least 3 shows (regardless of horse) will be eligible for the year end prize for their class (to be determined by the Board Members). Those who are not eligible will be given the option to pay the difference and receive the award with their class.
Awards for Childrens, Youth, Adult, Senior, and Jack Benny
Each timed class will have a named High Point “Champion” and Runner Up “Reserve Champion”. First time winners of their class will receive Personalized Buckles. Repeat Winners of that class will be given the option between a Personalized Buckle or an alternate prize (i.e. Personalized Horse Blanket, Award Jacket, etc).
The club will fund up to $100 towards a prize.
The awarded individual will be able to create their own buckle on the Montana Silversmith website.
A Buckle Sizing suggestion guidelines will be provided with the buckle order form and upon request.

Rider may start on either side of the poles.
Rider must ride down to the far pole, weave the down the poles, turn, and weave the poles back to the far pole, crossing the timeline on the opposite side.
Each down pole is a 5 second penalty.
Breaking the pattern is a disqualification.
Intentionally stopping a pole from falling is a disqualification.

Keyhole
Rider must ride down, go through the poles, turn, and return through the poles to cross the timeline.

Candy Dash (Lead Line ONLY)
There will be a person sitting/standing next to a barrel, the rider and it’s leader will round the barrel while retrieving the candy and go back across the timeline.
Mystery (Alternate) Games
Egg & Spoon
Rider must hold the spoon between thumb and index finger one inch from the egg.
Must change gate on command or will result in a disqualification.
Rider must raise their hand and proceed to the center of the arena when they drop their egg.
Water Cup Race
Water must be transferred behind the barrel.
Must have water in a cup when crossing the timeline.
Grapefruit Race
Must pick up and hold grapefruit with your chin.
If you drop the grapefruit while running back across the timeline the only way you can retrieve it is with your chin. You cannot touch it with your hands or you will be disqualified.
Speed Dash
There will be a single barrel at the other end of the arena (exact length to be determined by the gaming committee). Rider must go down and around the barrel and cross the timeline.
There will be a 5 second penalty for a down barrel.
Intentionally stopping a barrel from falling is a disqualification.
Speed Ball
There will be a single barrel with a cone on top of it at the end of the arena (exact length to be determined by the gaming committee).
Rider will enter the arena holding a ball and must go around the barrel, placing the ball in the cone, and then riding back across the timeline.
Missing the cone or a down barrel is a disqualification.
Intentionally stopping a barrel from falling is a disqualification.
Jumping Figure 8
If you knock down the jump on the entrance to the pattern, that is a 10 second penalty. If you knock down the jump on the exit to the pattern, that is a 5 second penalty.
Each down barrel is a 5 second penalty.

Exact measurements will be determined by the gaming committee.
The pole must stay on the jump stand. If any part of the pole touches the sand, it will be a penalty.
Walk-Trot Class will have the jumping pole start on the ground, and may set pole on stand upon request.
Children’s Class will have the jumping pole start on the stand, and may have pole set on ground upon request (penalty will be included in time).

Flying M
Backwards barrel pattern.
Each down pole is a 5 second penalty.

Speed N Action
A sixteen foot square box is marked in the arena.
Rider starts in the box and then runs around the barrel at the end of the arena. The rider returns to stop in the box and then stay within the box for five seconds.
The horse must not step on or over the box line during the five second hold or the rider is disqualified.
Knocking over the barrel is a 5 second penalty.
Intentionally preventing a barrel from falling is a disqualification.
Pony Express Scramble
There will be a mailbox on the fence at the end of the area (exact measurement to be determined by the gaming committee) and a barrel horizontally at the other fence.
The rider must go to the mailbox, retrieve the item in the mailbox, go around the barrel, and cross the timeline.
The mailbox must be closed after retrieving the mail.
An open mailbox upon crossing the timeline is a 5 second penalty.
A down barrel is a 5 second penalty.
Not retrieving the item from the mailbox is a disqualification.
You may dismount, however you must be on your horse when you cross the timeline entering and exiting.
Walk-Trot and Children’s Classes will have a “Mailman” to hand them the mail from their mailbox, but they must perform a complete stop when they retrieve the mail.
Hourglass
Each down pole/barrel is a 5 second penalty.
Breaking the pattern is a disqualification.

Team Games
Rescue Exchange
First rider rides to the opposite end of the arena and exchanges places with the rescue rider behind the barrel (bails off). Rescue rider will continue to cross the timeline.
Horse must go around the barrel.
Rescue rider must be in the saddle when crossing the timeline.
Hangman Race
Team rides double down to a rope at the side of the arena. The second rider will grab the rope and hang while the first rider rounds the barrel and returns to their teammate. Second rider will resume their spot behind the first rider (drop off of rope) and they will ride double back across the timeline.
A down barrel is a 5 second penalty.
The hanging rider must not touch the sand while hanging, or that will result in a disqualification.
A broken pattern (not going around the barrel) is a disqualification.
Monkey on a Barrel
One teammate will be mounted on the horse, the other will be standing on a barrel at the end of the arena. The mounted person must retrieve their teammate and cross the timeline.
Any person touching the ground is a disqualification.
Trailer Relay
There will be a truck/trailer in the arena with a barrel at the other end. The team of three will start with their hands on the hood of the truck and their horses loaded. Once the flag is dropped, they will unload their horses and run a relay around the barrel with an item chosen by the games committee (i.e. saddlebags or baton). Once all of the riders have ridden around the barrel, they all must reload their horses. Their time will stop once all riders' hands are back on the hood of the truck. (There are a few examples of this on YouTube)
Ribbon Race
The team of two will hold an 18” ribbon/rope and run the same pattern as the Speed Dash. The riders must not drop the ribbon/rope until they cross the timeline.
Awards
Ribbons
There will be placing ribbons for riders age 18 and under for placings 1st-6th. Leadline will receive a ribbon for every event (see Lead Line Rules).
Year-End Awards
Leadline, Walk-Trot, and Childrens riders who participate in at least 3 shows (regardless of horse) will be eligible for the year end prize for their class (to be determined by the Board Members). Those who are not eligible will be given the option to pay the difference and receive the award with their class.
Awards for Childrens, Youth, Adult, Senior, and Jack Benny
Each timed class will have a named High Point “Champion” and Runner Up “Reserve Champion”. First time winners of their class will receive Personalized Buckles. Repeat Winners of that class will be given the option between a Personalized Buckle or an alternate prize (i.e. Personalized Horse Blanket, Award Jacket, etc).
The club will fund up to $100 towards a prize.
The awarded individual will be able to create their own buckle on the Montana Silversmith website.
A Buckle Sizing suggestion guidelines will be provided with the buckle order form and upon request.
